Since Coach Sanders’ arrival to the Four Points area in 2009, he has led the Vandegrift Vipers to unprecedented success. Since the inception of the varsity program in 2010, the Vipers have 85 varsity program wins, an Area Finalist finish in 2011, 2013, 2016, and 2017,2019, a State Semi-Finalist team in 2014 and quarter-finalist finish in 2015, and Regional Semi-Finalist in 2018 and 427 program wins. The football Vipers currently boast a 73% program winning percentage since their arrival on the Austin football scene. In addition to a winning on the football field, the Vipers also have an emphasis on being involved in their local community. On a yearly basis, they read to local elementary children through their “Viper Reader” program, assist the teachers with a teacher luncheon, and build wheelchair ramps for the home-bound in project they call “Build a ramp.” Through putting others first and working hard in the classroom and on the field, the Viper football program is busy building men of honor. Coach Sanders also served on the T.H.S.C.A. (Texas High School Coaches’ Association) Board of Regional Directors. He is a past Director for Region 8. He was District 25-5A Coach of the year for 2014, 2018, and 2019. He’s been married to his wife Janet for 23 years and has 3 children: Matt, a Junior at UMHB, Caleb a Freshman at UMHB, and Sadie, a 8th grader at CRMS.
