The JV Silver Vipers rolled convincingly over the Westwood Warriors White team this week.
As has been a pattern in recent weeks, your Vipers stopped their opponents cold on their first drive, forced a short punt, and scored first. This week on a 15-yard pass from QB Tyler Hubbard #11 to WR Cole Chartier #13. Chartier again caught the pass from Hubbard for the 2-point conversion.
The teams traded punts and the Vipers got the ball at the beginning of the second quarter. Inside Warrior territory, RB Cayden Bourque #28 bounced a left tackle run outside and scampered 45 yards for a touchdown. Bourque, Hubbard and WR Slater Swartwood #9 then combined for another flea-flicker pass to complete a 2-point conversion.
Holed deep in their own territory, the Warriors fumbled, the Vipers pounced on it, giving their offense the ball only 12 yards from the goal line. RB Bourque, led by solid blocking from running back mate Nate Apra #32, swept right for the TD.
The Warriors mounted a drive and scored on a nice 32-yard run right.
When Vandegrift JV inserts Swartwood at quarterback, you know something fun will happen. On the next drive, Swartwood lined up at QB, took the snap, then pitched to Ford Boenig #15 who had circled behind him. Swartwood then ran to the left flat. Boenig tossed a pass back to Swartwood, who avoided tacklers up the sideline for a 68-yard touchdown pass-and-run. Nice first career pass by Ford Boenig! Kicker Alvaro Barbosa tacked on the 1-point kick.
The defense pitched in on the next drive, when DB Ethan McKinley #1 picked off a Warrior pass and ran it in for a 51-yard Pick Six TD!
To finish things off, RB Apra took a 16-yard pass from Hubbard and ran it in for a touchdown. Barbosa added the extra point.
