Stony Point does not have a JV B team so, on a cold, damp November night, Vandegrift JV Silver played their last game of the season in a non-district meeting with the Cedar Park JV A team.
Your Vipers fought hard against the bigger, older Timberwolves. The Viper defense stopped the Wolves first drive on fourth down 7-yards short of the end zone, firing up the Vandy bench and the faithful fans who braved the frigid air to support their boys.
Two plays later running back Cayden Bourque #28 blasted up the right side and outraced the Wolves defenders 90+ yards for a touchdown, and it seemed like a unlikely win by the Vipers was possible.
But the cold, harsh wind neutralized the Viper passing game, and when Bourque went down in the 3rd quarter with a groin pull, the night’s best offensive weapon went down with him.
In the meantime, the Wolves bigger offensive and defensive lines took over the game, and though the valiant Vandegrift players never quit, Cedar Park prevailed 26-6.
Still, the Vipers finished 8-2, and second place in district. A successful and fun season for Viper Nation.
