Vandegrift girls soccer starts district 5-0

Sunday, February 2, 2020

The Vandegrift girls varsity soccer team has started strong in district play.  Four games into their district season the girls have yet to give up a goal, thanks to the strong handed goalie duo of Mackenzie Murray and Payton Gisel.  The team started out with a 4-0 victory over Vista Ridge on Jan. 21 at home.  Lexi Spinetta put in three and Hailey Hoffmann assisted one and scored one.  The girls then traveled to district favorite Round Rock on Jan. 24 for a tough match up. Late in the first half, Sarah Devaney put the ball in off a great corner from Evan Ormond.  The Lady Vipers held on for the 1-0 win.  The defense again showed its speed and toughness that Friday night by holding off a quick Round Rock team. Addie Carriere had her first start at center back and rose to the challenge, keeping the Round Rock forwards at bay along with fellow defenders Reagan Scott, Hailey Sapinoro and Ormond.

This week the girls hosted McNeil on Jan. 28 with a 2-0 win and travel to Round Rock Westwood on Jan. 31 night for another district showdown.

Feb.7 is Leander at home and Feb. 11 at Stony Point.
